CANCELLATION OF CYCLE EVENT
The organisers of the Kapiti Cycle
Challenge regretfully advise the cancellation of this event, scheduled for
The escalating costs of organizing
this event, mainly around the Traffic Management component, have become too
high to enable the event to continue this year.
We had unfortunately received
a very low number of entries to date and at just two weeks out indications were
we would struggle to get 200 riders in total. We need about 300 in order to
break even so the hard decision had to be made to cancel the event for this
To all those who had entered, we
thank you for doing so, you will receive a full refund in due course.
A statement will be made in the
coming weeks regarding the future of this event.
It starts and finishes in Waikanae and will go around the iconic 95km circuit of - Waikanae - Paraparaumu - Paekakariki Hill - Haywards Hill - River Road to Brown Owl in Upper Hutt - then across the Akatarawa hill road, descending to the finish at Waikanae.
We have an 8.30am start, with a time limit on participants of a maximum riding time of 5 hours (see "Event Details" for more information). There will be stringent traffic Control on the circuit with partial road-closures in place on some parts of the circuit.
All supporters are encouraged to leave the start ahead of the event and proceed to the top of the Paekakariki hill to witness the cyclists climbing this famous hill. This climb will be closed to traffic when the riders come through - so we'd ask supporters to aim to be in place up the hill by 8.30. (They can then head back to Waikanae to view the finish).
There are plenty of details on this site - so please have a browse.
