WELCOME TO THE KAPITI CYCLE CHALLENGE

Welcome to the second running of this classic event.  Hundreds of riders taking on the iconic Paekakariki hill is a spectacle to behold!  The weather wasn't kind to us last year - but there were still plenty of spectators with great vantage points on the hill - and we are encouraging people again to get to the hill early to get a taste of the Tour de France on the Kapiti Coast!

For those of you with broadband - here's a montage of shots from the race.   Thanks everyone for a great day.  I'll add a link to the official photos as soon as they come available.

It starts and finishes in Waikanae and will go around the iconic 95km circuit of - Waikanae - Paraparaumu - Paekakariki Hill - Haywards Hill - River Road to Brown Owl in Upper Hutt - then across the Akatarawa hill road to descend to the finish at Waikanae.

The event is strategically timed so as to be used as a warm-up for two other major fun-rides, two and three weeks after this event.

We have an 8.30am start, with a time limit on participants of a maximum riding time of 5 hours (see "Event Details" for more information). There will be stringent traffic Control on the circuit with partial road-closures in place on the more difficult parts of the circuit.

All supporters are encouraged to leave the start ahead of the event and proceed to the top of the Paekakariki hill to witness the largest number of cyclists ever climbing this famous hill.  This climb will be closed to traffic when the riders come through - so we'd ask supporters to aim to be in place up the hill by 8.30.  (They can then head back to Waikanae to view the finish)  This section of the event will be broadcast live over local radio and also broadcast back at the start/finish area.

There are plenty of details on this site - so please have a browse.

If you want to be kept up to date with developments - please submit your email address below and we'll email you periodically with information about the event.
